Brighton & Hove Albion have agreed a deal to loan goalkeeper Christian Walton out to Wigan again next season, HITC Sport understands from sources close to the club.

Walton enjoyed a season-long loan spell at Wigan last term and was instrumental in their success this term in winning promotion back to the Championship.

Former England Under-21 international Walton kept a superb 20 clean sheets in 35 games in all competitions for Wigan last season.

Walton also helped Wigan claim a hat-trick of Premier League scalps in the FA Cup against Bournemouth, West Ham and Manchester City, becoming only the fourth goalkeeper to keep a clean sheet against Premier League champions Manchester City.

Walton also scooped the man-of-the-match award in the FA Cup quarter-final defeat to Southampton with the giant keeper producing a superb penalty save from Manolo Gabbiadini.

Brighton are happy to send Walton out on loan again next season so that he can continue his development with regular first-team football.

A number of Championship clubs have expressed an interest in taking Walton on loan, but Wigan have always been in pole position with the player enjoying his time at the DW Stadium last season.

Both clubs have agreed terms on another loan deal, but Brighton will only sanction the move once they have brought in a new goalkeeper of their own as they don’t want to leave themselves short in the goalkeeping department.
