West Ham are already negotiating to try and sign players and get new manager Manuel Pellegrini off to a strong start.

Bringing in new players quickly is going to be absolutely essential for the Hammers, ideally they need to get players in before pre-season starts at the beginning of July.

This does not leave long, but it could be absolutely essential after the club's difficult start to the season was announced.

West Ham begin the campaign away to Liverpool, and end August away to Arsenal, with a home game against Bournemouth in between.

Playing away at Liverpool and Arsenal are tough fixtures, but the timing actually presents an opportunity.

Many of Liverpool's players will return late due to World Cup involvement, as will Arsenal's, who are also going to be getting used to new boss Unai Emery.

The Gunners will also likely be under pressure before the West Ham clash, as they face Manchester City and Chelsea in their opening two games.

West Ham have a chance to catch Liverpool cold and take advantage of Arsenal, if they can get their act together quickly.

Last minute signings won't be much use, West Ham need additions in early, who can gel in pre-season and start improving the team.

With Wolves, Everton, Chelsea and Manchester United up in September, getting points on the board early in August is crucial for confidence.

The job starts immediately for the Hammers, and they cannot afford to hang about in the transfer market.
