The Sheffield Star named Birmingham as one of two clubs, along with Middlesbrough, believed to be tracking the Scotland international.
Bannan has proved himself to be one of Sheffield Wednesday's most important players since his move to Hillsborough three years ago, but is about to enter the final year of his contract.
And with reports suggesting the Owls may have to cash in on some of their high earning players this summer, it is perhaps no surprise to see other clubs credited with interest - not least Birmingham, who were linked with the 28-year-old a year ago.
But what do Blues fans make of the rumour, given Bannan's ties to rivals Aston Villa?
This is what they are saying...
Looks like we may be after Barry Bannan - a former Villain, would you take him? Certainly the type of player we need, but not on the greatest terms with us! #bcfc— BrummieJoe (@BrummieJoeHD) 14 June 2018
He won’t join us. Hates us. But he’s quality— Connor (@connor1thompson) 14 June 2018
Can't see it myself it hates us. We hate him so— Nathan (@nathancarty112) 14 June 2018
I really couldn’t care if he played for Villa before - great Championship player and fits the bill to a tee. #bcfc— Everything BCFC (@everythingbcfc) 14 June 2018
Same here. It's all about what the player does here not his history.— iSabreman (@iSabreman) 14 June 2018
When we played them at home last season everything went through him, looked a class player to me.— John Ramsay (@JohnR200) 14 June 2018
Barry Bannan to Blues is an absolute no. Cannot stand that little weasel.— Tom (@_moosebcfc) 14 June 2018
Would Birmingham fans be willing to put aside the Sheffield Wednesday star's Aston Villa ties?
