Report: Barcelona will offer Rafinha to Tottenham in Eriksen swap deal

La Liga champions Barcelona reportedly want Christian Eriksen from Tottenham Hotspur and are allegedly willing to offer Rafinha to get him.

Rafinha of FC Barcelona tries an overhead kick during the La Liga match between FC Barcelona and Valencia CF at Camp Nou stadium on March 19, 2017 in Barcelona, Spain.

Tottenham Hotspur’s reported interested in Rafinha certainly plays into Barcelona’s hands.

Rafinha spent the second half of last season on loan at Inter Milan, with an option to make the deal permanent for around £30 million should they secure Champions League football, which Luciano Spalletti’s side did in dramatic fashion via a 3-2 final day win at Lazio.

But Inter have now decided against signing the 26-year-old Brazilian, which Sport claim has opened the door for Tottenham.

And this is music to the ears of Barcelona. Rafinha, brother of former Barca star and current Bayern Munich play-maker Thiago, is not in Ernesto Valverde’s plans at the Camp Nou and Sport believe that the Catalan giants could try to use him to take advantage of their interest in Christian Eriksen.

Sport claims that Barca could use Rafinha as a bargaining chip in negotiations with Spurs for the Danish talisman, who is a player high on the La Liga champions’ wish list.

Christian Eriksen of Spurs shoots at goal during the Premier League match between Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United at Wembley Stadium on January 4, 2018 in London, England.

They will be hoping that Tottenham would be more open to letting Eriksen go should Rafinha, a ready-made replacement for the number ten position, arrive in his place as part of the deal.

Nonetheless, it seems unlikely that Tottenham would play ball. As talented as Rafinha is, he is still a long way short of Eriksen, who has developed an ability in the last year or so to influence and win games at the highest level.
