Rodgers worked with Sterling at Liverpool, and the Celtic boss has backed the 23-year-old, who can operate as a winger or as an attacking midfielder, to succeed for the Three Lions in Russia this summer.
The former Liverpool and Swansea City manager has also praised the development of Sterling.
Rodgers told The Glasgow Evening Times: “I think Raheem Sterling can have a great World Cup. He has had big experiences now as a young player and he is really developing and improving his game. If he gets the opportunity he can have a successful tournament.”
Sterling is one of the best attacking players in Europe, and his performances for City this past season were hugely encouraging.
The 23-year-old will be a key player for England at the 2018 World Cup finals in Russia this summer.
Sterling was on the books of Liverpool from 2010 until 2015, and Rodgers was a key figure in his development.
The City star has taken his game to a whole new level under Guardiola, and given that he is only 23 years of age, he can only improve in the coming years.
