Rangers have signed McGregor on a free transfer this summer following his departure from Hull City in the Championship in England at the end of the 2017-18 season.
The 36-year-old Scotland international goalkeeper started his professional club football career at Rangers and left for Turkish giants Besiktas in 2012.
Former Rangers striker and manager McCoist, who is a legend at Ibrox, has praised the signing of McGregor for Steven Gerrard’s side.
McCoist told The Scottish Sun about McGregor: “Allan won’t be coming up here with a mindset that he’ll be sitting on the bench. He’ll want to play and he clearly knows what the club is all about.
“He was at Ibrox during better times and I would imagine his ego will be such that he’ll want to get them back there and experience that again. I think his return will be welcomed by the vast majority of Rangers fans.”
Warning for Wes Foderingham?
Wes Foderingham has been the first-choice goalkeeper at Rangers since his move in 2015 and is a good player.
Although the 27-year-old has made mistakes from time to time, he has proved that he is good enough to play for Rangers.
However, Foderingham will be given a run for their money by McGregor, who is a hugely experienced footballer.
McGregor will have joined Rangers with the aim of playing week in and week out for Steven Gerrard’s side, and Foderingham will have to be on top of his game.
