Wayne Rooney reportedly has designs on staying with Everton.

Wayne Rooney comes out for the warm up before the Premier League match between Everton and Leicester City at Goodison Park on January 31, 2018 in Liverpool, England.

According to The Mirror, Wayne Rooney is closing in on a move to DC United, but the 32-year-old wants to stay at Goodison Park.

It was reported last month that the MLS outfit were willing to pay £12 million to sign the former Manchester United star [The Mirror].

And it looks like that has edged closer to materialising after Rooney was photographed visiting a US consulate in Belfast on Friday, as part of his visa application.

However, The Mirror claims that the England legend would prefer to stay at Everton for the remainder of his contract, which expires in 2019, and then perhaps remain on Merseyside for another year.

The report adds that the Goodison Park side are keen to sell him.

Rooney, who began his career with the Toffees, re-signed for Everton last summer and managed 10 goals in 31 Premier League outings.

Even at 32, Rooney clearly still has something to offer, but new manager Marco Silva and Director of Football Marcel Brands are now calling the shots, with the duo keen to reduce the club's wage bill ahead of a rebuilding process this summer.
