Tom Pearce has taken to Twitter to express his delight after signing a four-year deal at Leeds United, while a number of the Elland Road faithful also took to social media to comment on the announcement.

Pearce enjoyed a sensational rise this past season. He began the campaign as one of the many players that was being rotated amongst the under-23 side before gradually forcing his way into Carlos Corberan's ranks on a much more regular basis. And when Laurens De Bock sustained an injury, Paul Heckingbottom handed him a chance in the first-team.

And there is no question that the 20-year-old took the opportunity with both hands - just as Bailey Peacock-Farrell and Paudie O'Connor did around the same time. Pearce was extremely impressive during the final weeks of the season, scoring in the win over Barnsley before performing a celebration that will, unfortunately for Pearce, live long in the memory amongst Whites supporters.

The Sun on Sunday (27/05; page 65) reported that Everton and Bournemouth had their eye on the youngster this summer, but it certainly appears that he is set to be in Leeds' ranks again next season with the club confirming on their official website that he has signed a contract until 2022.

And after the news was confirmed, Pearce took to social media to send a message to the supporters. Here is what the defender posted...

Unsurprisingly, the news has been met with an extremely positive reaction on social media. It, of course, is still not entirely out of the equation for a move to take place - The Sun on Sunday (27/05; page 65) suggested that Leeds may still consider selling if they agreed a new deal - but the deal is an extremely encouraging sign that he is not going anywhere over the summer.

But while the news has pleased the majority of the Leeds fans, they have wasted little time in letting the club know that they now want to see the head coach situation addressed, while summer signings should also be on the wishlist.

The Yorkshire Evening Post recently reported that Marcelo Bielsa is a target to succeed Heckingbottom, and that the club wish to sign Kyle Bartley and Abel Hernandez. And, unsurprisingly, the three names cropped up quite a few times when the supporters were reacting to Pearce's contract extension.
