According to a report from the Daily Mail, Stoke City are lining up a summer swoop for Newcastle hitman Dwight Gayle, but West Ham should enter the race for the striker's signature.

Gayle joined the Magpies from Crystal Palace in the summer of 2016, for a fee believed to be worth in the region of £10 million, and he has sine gone on to score 29 goals in 71 appearances in all competitions for the Toon.

According to the Daily Mail, Newcastle could be willing to sell Gayle for around £10 million this summer, however, and he would be the ideal addition to the Hammers squad.

The former Dagenham and Redbridge hitman is a real live-wire, and is clinical when presented with a goalscoring opportunity.

He has a knack of finding space in the 18-yard box, and his runs in behind the opposition defence is exactly what West Ham need.

Gayle would be the ideal strike partner for Marko Arnautovic, and the pair could really strike up a tremendous understanding.

The 27-year-old was born in east London, so a return to his old stomping ground might be just what he needs to breath life back into his stuttering career.

In today's day and age, £10 million for Gayle would represent decent value, and West Ham should not hesitate to bring the pacey forward to the London Stadium this summer.
