According to a report from Sky Sports, Rangers winger Joe Dodoo is closing in on a loan move away from Ibrox this summer, with Blackpool in advanced talks regarding signing the Gers youngster on a temporary basis.

Dodoo has endured a disappointing time since joining Rangers in 2016. His arrival appeared to be something of a coup given how highly he was rated at former club Leicester and there were glimpses of real quality during his first season in the Scottish Premiership.

He scored two goals in his first three appearances and then turned the trip to Partick Thistle on its head in November 2016. Rangers were a goal down with 10 minutes to play when the 22-year-old scored twice to earn his side the three points. One of the goals - a brilliantly taken volley - certainly suggested that he was going to be a player to keep an eye on.

Unfortunately, Dodoo does not appear to have really kicked on from that stage. An uninspiring loan spell at Charlton during the first-half of this past season was followed by just two cup appearances upon his return to Rangers in January.

Steven Gerrard is unveiled as the new manager of Rangers football Club at Ibrox Stadium on May 4, 2018 in Glasgow, Scotland.

Sky Sports now reports that he is advanced talks to seal a loan move to Bloomfield Road this summer. And with Sky Sports adding that he has two years left on his deal, he will know just how important it is that he makes an impression with Gary Bowyer's side.

Steven Gerrard is likely to have big plans and ambitions for his time with Rangers, so perhaps it would be fair to suggest that only a superb loan spell may be enough to earn him another chance at Ibrox upon his probable return next summer.
