Liverpool goalkeeper confirmed to have sustained concussion in the Champions League final.
Liverpool goalkeeper Loris Karius ended the Champions League final in tears as his dream turned into a nightmare.
He was directly at fault for two of Real Madrid's three second half goals in Kiev.
Real won the game 3-1 and Karius faces the axe this summer at Liverpool weigh up a change in goal.
But did Karius have a legitimate excuse for his perplexing errors?
He underwent testing in America over the past week and the results have confirmed the Reds' doctors' suspicions.
One possible moment he sustained the blow was early in the second half when Sergio Ramos appeared to collide with him at a set piece.
At this stage the score was 0-0, and his first error came minutes later.
The revelation will not undo Karius' mistakes, but it could help him try and come to terms with his error a bit better and understand why it happened.
What Liverpool do with it is another matter. Do they now back Karius, or replace him anyway?
Will it be enough to save his Liverpool career? The reaction from fans is certainly very split, and not all are buying it.
So has Karius had concussion for two years then yeah? #LFC— David Hale (@davidhalelfc) June 4, 2018
Initially I thought maybe Karius should've spoken to medics, but then again if sub was made Mignolet plays like he concussed all the time so maybe wouldn't have made much difference to the scoreline.#ifs #buts#LFC— My Surname is Khan™ (@ejaz_k) June 4, 2018
After the news that's just surfaced, i think it's all but confirmed that we will not be spending much on a world class GK as we will still give Karius a chance.— Shibesh D (@What_aHitSon) June 4, 2018
Would easily be the worst decision Klopp has made since coming here. #LFC
Feel for the lad and this may well have been a huge factor in the mistakes that were made but we needed a world class keeper before the final and we still need one now #LFC #Kariushttps://t.co/ETcxIpYits— Daniel Gore (@KoptimusPrime) June 4, 2018
Karius getting an elbow to the face and instantly alerting the referee. Only for the ref to make him continue, thus resulting in 2 errors, and us losing the CL.— Liam Grimshaw (@LiamGrimshawLFC) June 4, 2018
Karius had shown massive improvement prior to this. Might be worth spending £80m elsewhere? #LFC pic.twitter.com/cRLIQAxSLV
I was fully behind Loris Karius being number 1 before today’s news. I hope the rest of the fan base can get behind him in light of it. #LFC— Dan Allott (@dan_allott) June 4, 2018
And there goes any bid for Oblak and Allison. Warped club. Don't buy this story for a second. What were the Liverpool medical staff. Karius surely displayed symptoms during the game and post game that would have alerted team mates and staff. Strange! #LFC https://t.co/Wl8o0Smeki— David Fitzmaurice (@Fitzie77) June 4, 2018
