Arsenal are reportedly keen on signing the Sporting Lisbon ace.
Arsenal boss Unai Emery faces a vitally important summer transfer window ahead of him, if he is to stand any chance whatsoever of leading his side to an improved Premier League campaign next term.
According to Portuguese media outlet O Jogo, the Gunners are lining up a summer swoop for Sporting Lisbon ace Gelson Martins, and what a signing he could turn out to be for them, if they manage to get a deal for the Portuguese over the line.
Former Arsenal ace Alexis Sanchez left the Emirates for Manchester United in January, and despite the fact that the north Londoners acquired the services of Henrikh Mkhitaryan in return, they were undoubtedly weakened after the Chilean's exit.
And Martins, 23, could be just the man just the man to fill the void left behind by the mercurial South American.
The Portugal international is a lively operator, and possesses the kind of ability needed to change the course of a match in an instant.
Martins produced an extremely productive campaign for Sporting last season, chipping in with 13 goals and 13 assists in 52 appearances in all competitions, and it is exactly that kind of attacking output that the Gunners have missed since Sanchez's exit from north London.
He is incredibly quick off the mark, possesses exceptional technical ability, and plays with a certain type of directness that would offer Unai Emery something completely different in the final third.
Whilst the Portuguese is certainly not yet at Sanchez's level, he most definitely has the potential to go on and match the Chile international's quality, and if the Gunners manage to bring him to north London this summer, it could turn out to be fantastic business for them.
