According to a report from the Daily Star, West Ham are leading the chase to sign Arsenal ace Jack Wilshere, as Manuel Pellegrini looks to add more creativity and guile to his central midfield options at the London Stadium.

The 26-year-old is out of contract with the Gunners this summer, and if he fails to agree terms on a new deal with the club, he will be available on a free transfer.

Wilshere's career within the game has been blighted by injuries, but he seemed to return to somewhere near his best with Arsenal last season, making 38 appearances in all competitions for the north London outfit.

He showed glimpses of what he is capable of, and if he maintains that kind of level next season, he would be a real asset for West Ham.

The Englishman possesses exceptional technical ability, and is one of the few midfielders in the Premier League who is comfortable carrying the ball from deep inside his own half into the final third.

He is cool and composed when in possession, and can break the lines with his expert vision and wonderful array of passing.

He is the ideal addition for the Hammers this summer, especially with Mark Noble on the wrong side of 31, and if they manage to bring him in on a free transfer, not only would it be a real coup for West Ham, but it could turn out to be the signing that takes them to the next level.
