The Inter Milan midfielder spent the second half of last season on loan at the London Stadium.
The 25-year-old was loaned out to the Hammers by parent club Inter Milan in January and hit two goals in 13 Premier League appearances and a recent Calciomercato report claims that West Ham are in talks with the Italian club about a potential permanent deal.
But Hammers fans want a transfer to be tied up as soon as possible after the former Sporting CP man scored a superb goal for his home nation last night.
@joaome17 please tell your agent you want to come back home & put on West Ham kit! Brilliant goal & next season be for us⚒— Joshua (@SchroerJr) May 28, 2018
Joao Mario proving his worth. Quality goal. West Ham get the deal to bring him back done. Full pre-season with us, he’d have a cracking season.— Scott Newton (@ScottNewton) May 28, 2018
I'd like to see Joao Mario back at West Ham, why don't they and try and sign him permantly rather than on loan— Sheryl Bone (@sherylbone2) May 28, 2018

Fredericks on a FREE.
If we can get that done early, its a good start to the summer.
Sign him up!— ⚒ G WHU ⚒ (@COYIRONS) May 29, 2018
Bringing Joao Mario back to the London Stadium would certainly be a shrewd move by new boss Manuel Pellegrini, considering his impressive form in the latter stages of last season.
However, a second loan deal may pose as a more sensible option, given that the Portuguese signed for Inter just two years ago for £38.4 million - a sum the Italians would likely wish to recoup the majority of.
