Liverpool are expected to say goodbye to Simon Mignolet.

Liverpool goalkeeper Danny Ward could be in line for a promotion next season, report The Times.

Ward spent this past season sitting in the stands and filling in at under-23 level, as the Reds’ third choice stopper.

The Wales international starred for Huddersfield Town in 2016/17 as they won promotion, but Liverpool have been determined to hang onto him despite not having an immediate use for him.

In front of him, a fascinating battle has played out, with Simon Mignolet finally losing his number one spot to Loris Karius, who he had held off since the German signed in 2016.

Loris Karius of Liverpool gives his team instructions during the Premier League match between Everton and Liverpool at Goodison Park on April 7, 2018 in Liverpool, England.

Karius is the undisputed number one heading into the Champions League final, and Belgian international Mignolet is expected to seek a departure.

Liverpool may be reluctant to splash out on a big name number one, thanks to Karius’ form, with Roma asking a sky-high price.

The Times report Liverpool are leaning towards backing off paying big for Alisson, and are considering making Danny Ward their number two next season.

While still a back-up role, as number two Ward at least has a chance of playing, being just one injury or a suspension away.

He will get to travel on away trips with the squad and actually sit on the bench, a big improvement on his situation last season.

If he was due to be third choice again, Ward would have to seek an exit.

Klopp being ready to promote him instead of signing an alternative back-up to Karius to replace Mignolet is a big show of faith for his talent and the way he has conducted himself behind the scenes.
