Sheffield United can look forward to another three years with manager Chris Wilder following his new contract earlier this week – and he is expected to be given considerable funds in the transfer market.

The Blades will be looking to splash the cash having convinced Wilder to stay, and one of the most recent links has been with a permanent move for goalkeeper Jamal Blackman.

Blackman, 24, has come up through the ranks with Chelsea but spent this season on loan at Bramall Lane, and served as the first-choice goalkeeper under Wilder this term.

The 6ft 6in goalkeeper has mostly impressed between the sticks for Sheffield United, and Tuesday's edition of The Sun (p52) claimed that Wilder is now lining up a £2.5million bid for the shot-stopper.

Blackman only signed a new four-year deal last summer, hence the considerable fee needed to prise him away from Stamford Bridge, and fans have taken to Twitter to offer their thoughts on the rumours.

Some believe that Blackman would be a bargain at £2.5million, touting him for a huge future whilst thinking that he will be worth much more in the future once he's a Premier League-calibre goalkeeper.

Others don't think United can afford to pay £2.5million for a goalkeeper when they need reinforcements elsewhere, with some less than convinced that Blackman is the player to build around.
