New Stoke City boss Gary Rowett reportedly wants to raid Derby County for Curtis Davies.

According to The Mirror, new Stoke City manager Gary Rowett is already eyeing a raid on Derby County, as he wants to land defender Curtis Davies.

The Potters sacked Paul Lambert last week and moved quickly to land his replacement, as they prised Rowett away from Derby on Tuesday evening.

Rowett inherits a squad full of quality, but he may well lose the likes of Jack Butland, Badou Ndiaye, Joe Allen and Xherdan Shaqiri, with the new Potters boss in need of reinforcements to launch a promotion push.

With Kurt Zouma returning to Chelsea and Kevin Wimmer primed for the exit, another option at centre back may be needed, and The Mirror report that Rowett wants to reunite with Curtis Davies at the bet365 Stadium.

Davies, 33, joined Derby from Hull City last summer in a £500,000 deal, and played a key role as the Rams made the Championship play-offs, making a total of 45 appearances under Rowett.

An experienced centre back who has turned out for Luton Town, West Bromwich Albion, Aston Villa, Leicester City and Birmingham City, Davies is a proven Championship performer and could solidify the Stoke back line.

Adding another veteran may raise questions over the future of Ryan Shawcross, but Rowett seemingly wants to reunite with one of his key players at Derby – and it remains to be seen whether the Rams would sell to their former manager.
