Ferrerya has since gone about proving that assertion drastically wrong.
He has been starring for Shakhtar Donetsk and is eyeing a big move.
This season Ferreyra scored 30 goals in 42 games, which included three strikes in the Champions League.
Now 27-years-old, Ferrerya is poised to cash in on his success.
He is keen on a big move, but does not want to return to England.
He has been linked with a move to Portugal, and he is not short of offers.
Ferreyra was quoted by the Bobr Times: “I have other offers. Now I want to relax a bit. I like the Championships of Spain and Italy, would like to play there. Now there are negotiations, yet can’t name the clubs.”
If he continues his stunning form at a top European club, Newcastle will continue to scratch their heads as to where it all went wrong.
