Newcastle fans have been reacting on Twitter to the reports coming out of the Daily Mirror which suggested that West Ham have made Rafa Benitez their number one target and are now planning an approach for the Spaniard.

The Hammers are currently looking for a new manager after letting David Moyes' contract expire at the London Stadium. The Mirror reports that a four-man shortlist has been drawn up, with Benitez being joined by Marco Silva, Manuel Pellegrini and Paulo Fonseca.

The Mirror adds however, that Benitez is their number one option and an approach for the 58-year-old is now expected with the Irons hierarchy hoping to make an appointment by the end of next week.

Unsurprisingly, the news has not received a positive reaction amongst the Newcastle fans on social media. The majority of the supporters cannot see why Benitez would even consider heading to West Ham when the Magpies finished higher in the Premier League this year having been a second tier side just last season.

There are a couple of concerned supporters however. Some feel that Benitez's frustration in previous transfer windows may come back to haunt the club if Mike Ashley is not willing to back the former Liverpool and Real Madrid boss during this window.

Most appear to be confident that Newcastle have little to worry about in regards to West Ham's interest with this past season showing that the Hammers are not without their own problems either, and some have suggested that Benitez may simply use the Irons' interest to strengthen his hand when it comes to discussing the future with Ashley.
