The Sun reported how West Ham United were planning a £15 million raid for Newcastle United defender Jamaal Lascelles this summer, and that move could become more likely if Rafael Benitez does take the job at the London Stadium.
While any deal for the Spanish boss is still a long way from completion, there are some concerns around St. James’ Park that Benitez could depart.
Newcastle fans may argue that moving to West Ham would be a step down for Benitez.
But the Hammers are reportedly prepared to back Benitez with the big budget he has been asking for for so long at Newcastle.
And if he did arrive at West Ham it would not be at all surprising to see Lascelles made one of his top targets.
The Hammers are on the hunt for new defenders, and Benitez is a huge fan of Lascelles.
The pair have had a great relationship during their time together at Newcastle.
And if West Ham were planning to move for Lascelles even before Benitez took charge, then that move will become even more likely if the Spaniard is in the dugout.
