Chelsea have made signing Newcastle United captain Jamaal Lascelles a "priority" this summer, reports the Evening Standard.

The Blues are looking to improve their squad after a disappointing defence of their Premier League title that saw them finish fifth and outside of the Champions League qualification spots.

Their season ended with a 3-0 defeat to Lascelles' side at St James' Park and now an overhaul of players looks set to take place in West London.

How much will he cost?

The Mirror recently reported that Everton, another side interested in the defender alongside Tottenham Hotspur, were lining up a £25m offer for the 24-year-old.

That would prove to be significantly less than the asking price for another centre-back on the radar at Stamford Bridge, Kalidou Koulibaly, whom the Sun claim would cost £65m to land from current team Napoli.

Lascelles has impressed for the Magpies this term, helping them to a tenth place finish in the English top flight having only been promoted from the Championship last year.
