Steve Clarke really appears to have Brendan Rodgers’ number.
Three times the two managers have faced off in the Scottish Premiership this season and three times Rodgers’ title-winning Celtic have failed to defeat Clarke’s well-drilled Kilmarnock side.
And the man who scored the only goal of the game that day, Youssouf Mulumbu, impressed once again against the Glasgow giants and continues to justify those links with Celtic.
The 31-year-old has been reborn since arriving at Killie on a free transfer in the autumn following his release by Norwich City. In fact, he has been so impressive that the Scottish Sun claimed both Celtic and Rangers were planning to sign Mulumbu on a free when his short-term contract comes to an end in the summer.
And Mulumbu would certainly be a popular addition among Celtic fans.
Because the former West Brom powerhouse was excellent once more against his potential future employers. Operating in a more advanced midfield position, Mulumbu showed off the full range of his talents.
And, with doubts surrounding the futures of Tom Rogic and Callum McGregor, Mulumbu’s latest display should have given Rodgers food for thought.
Not the best tonight for obvious reasons. Really missed a centre forward. Thought Mulumbu was really good for them. They didn’t test our keeper at all. Get back to winning ways on Sunday then final push for the treble— Brother Celtic (@BrotherCeltic) May 9, 2018
Rate that Mulumbu— Keiran Lewis (@TheRealTosh98) May 9, 2018
Even with one working gonad, we should be signing this guy . . . and his pal Mulumbu https://t.co/4w9Fu0mtZs— Marc (@LumboMarc) May 9, 2018
We were brutal the night but Steve Clarke has got that Killie side set up brilliantly man Mulumbu is an absolute player— Shaun (@Shaunn_88) May 9, 2018
