Championship surprise package Cardiff City need a striker as Neil Warnock prepares them for a return to the Premier League this summer.

It is fairly clear where Cardiff City need to strengthen as they prepare for a return to the Premier League this summer. Neil Warnock’s record eighth promotion as a manager was built on team ethic, physicality and a solid defence, not so much a prolific touch in the final third.

Only one Cardiff player hit double figures in the Championship this season – midfielder Callum Paterson. Kenneth Zohore netted just nine while Gary Madine failed to score after his £6 million January move from Bolton.

So it should come as little surprise to learn that there are a number of strikers being linked with a move to South Wales already.

The Mail stated this week that Cardiff are set to offer £12.5 million to sign West Brom target man Salomon Rondon. The Venezuelan scored 10 goals for the Baggies this season and, now that their relegation has been confirmed, it is understood that Warnock has made him his top target.

And Bild is now reporting that another player on Cardiff’s radar is the Hannover front man Niclas Fullkrug.

Fullkrug has 13 Bundesliga goals to his name this season, a tally bettered by only four players including Bayern Munich’s Robert Lewandowski. It is understood that the 25-year-old could cost around £8 million.

Interestingly, Bet Victor have also made Cardiff the favourites to sign Watford’s £18 million flop Andre Gray. The speedy striker struggled at Vicarage Road but starred for Burnley in 2016/17 and, given the right service, could thrive in the Premier League.

The signs are good for Cardiff. They are not waiting around to enhance their squad and one area in particular.
