Liverpool striker Rhian Brewster appears set to head to Celtic on loan next season, according to reports.

According to a report from Herald Scotland, Celtic are edging closer to agreeing a loan deal that would see Liverpool’s Rhian Brewster head to Parkhead for the entirety of next season.

The 18-year-old is considered one of the brightest English talents coming through right now, having been a key part of the England under-17 side that won the World Cup last year – with eight goals, he finished as the competition’s leading goalscorer.

Herald Scotland reports that he is likely to have plenty of loan offers to pick from over the summer, but, while nothing has been finalised quite yet, it is Celtic who look set to win the race to sign the teenager on loan for next season.

The report adds that Jurgen Klopp feels that a loan switch to the Scottish Premiership champions is the perfect move for Brewster, who has been in excellent form for the Reds’ under-23 side this term, with five goals and seven assists coming in 11 Premier League 2 appearances.

Potential masterstroke from Rodgers?

Herald Scotland suggests that it is entirely possible that Moussa Dembele could leave and Odsonne Edouard’s loan deal could end without a further agreement being reached, so it is little surprise that Brendan Rodgers – who was in charge of the Reds when Brewster swapped Chelsea for Anfield in 2015 – appears to be determined to bolster his striker options as quickly as possible.

Despite all the promise he is showing however, signing Brewster could also be deemed a gamble given that the forward has been sidelined with injury since January and the Liverpool Echo suggested in March that it was going to be July before he is back training again.

But given the quality that Brewster has shown for club and country, it would certainly appear to be a risk worth taking for Rodgers and he will be hoping that Celtic can get the deal across the line now that they appear to be in pole position.
