Liverpool youngster helped fire Reds under-23s to a win over Everton.
Liverpool youngster Dominic Solanke was on target for the Reds as they beat Everton 3-1 in the under-23 'mini derby'.
Solanke scored Liverpool's opener, netting from the penalty spot.
It was another confidence booster for the 20-year-old striker who has failed to convert his chances for the first team.
Solanke has long been prolific at youth team level but he is struggling to make the step up. He drew a blank against Everton's first team when they recently met and he got the start.
More chances could come his way before the end of the season with Liverpool needing to rotate their team as they balance Champions League ambitions. Last night was a small positive sign that he will keep on going as he hopes to finally make his mark for the Reds.
He came close to adding to his tally, having another shot cleared off the line, but it wasn't meant to be.
Liverpool's other two goals were an own goal forced by Rafa Camacho, and Nathaniel Phillips, before Bass Sambou pulled back a consolation for Everton.
Solanke was capped by England back in November although his failure to kick on for his club since has put paid to any World Cup ambition he will retain, barring a remarkable end to the season.
The youngster will still dream of coming off the bench to score the winner in the Champions League final, and as long as he keeps knocking them in for the under-23s, he will keep his name in the frame for opportunities.
Here is a look at how Liverpool fans reacted on Twitter to his performance...
Big Dom Solanke has scored for the U23s! Give him some confidence for the end of the season games. Would love to see him score for us #LFC

Dom Solanke is only good enough for U23’s at #LFC. He is not experienced enough to be a first-team back-up striker.
Look at City, Jesus is back-up, Arsenal got Lacazette as back-up.
can he do this is big games pls

How come Solanke never scores for 1st team but scores almost everytime he plays for U23s https://t.co/dT03Tcgglv

Solanke needs a loan to a Premier League (a la Sturridge with Bolton). Far too good for the U23s but not sharp enough to play for us.
