Lazio are reportedly pushing to sign Everton defender Ramiro Funes Mori.

According to Sport Mediaset, Lazio have opened the first talks to sign Everton defender Ramiro Funes Mori as a replacement for Stefan de Vrij.

Lazio are on course for a top four finish in Serie A thanks to excellent performances from the likes of Sergej Milinkovic-Savic and Ciro Immobile, but defender De Vrij has also starred.

However, the Dutch centre back is out of contract this summer and has refused to sign a new deal, and the belief is that he will head to Serie A rivals Inter Milan this summer on a free transfer.

That leaves Lazio searching for another centre back to play alongside the likes of Wallace, Bastos and Stefan Radu, and they appear to be eyeing up a raid on Everton.

Stefan De Vrij of SS Lazio celebrates a opening goal with his team mates during the Serie A match between SS Lazio and ACF Fiorentina at Stadio Olimpico on November 26, 2017 in Rome, Italy.

Sport Mediaset in Italy report that Lazio have made first contact to sign Toffees defender Ramiro Funes Mori, who has only recently made his return from injury having missed the entire season.

Funes Mori, 25, was a 2015 signing by Roberto Martinez having impressed in his native Argentina with River Plate, but he has blown hot and cold at Goodison Park, and may be at risk of being moved on given his injury problems.

The centre back may be in line to feature for Argentina at this summer's World Cup in Russia, but he may also have a new team to play for after the tournament if Lazio get their way.

The rumours are also somewhat ironic given that the Liverpool Echo reported that Everton director of football Steve Walsh wanted to lure De Vrij to Everton, yet it's a Goodison Park misfit being lined up as his replacement out in Italy.
