Ajax goalkeeper Andre Onana wants to leave the club this summer.
Ajax goalkeeper Andre Onana has told Goal that he wants to leave the club this summer, blasting the club's officials in the process.
Onana, 22, was once on the books of Barcelona before heading to Ajax in 2015, where he featured for their 'Jong' side before stepping up into the first team.
The Cameroon international established himself as Jasper Cillessen's replacement last season, and has continued to impress this term, becoming one of European football's top young goalkeepers.
However, Onana appears to have had enough at Ajax, having told Goal that he will 'definitely leave' if he receives an offer this summer, as he feels terrible after losing 3-0 to rivals PSV Eindhoven on Sunday, even blaming directors Marc Overmars and Edwin van der Sar for poor displays.
“If I have to go then I will definitely leave, I want to leave because you are going to really feel s**t if you lose such matches,” said Onana. “I can stay and try to be champion next season, but if something better comes I'll be away, I think it's important to look at my own career, I'm ready for my next step with a new challenge.”
“That this happens is not only the fault of the manager, because I know that the media will spread negativity about him. Marc Overmars and Edwin van der Sar, they are all equally responsible for making us play s**t. It is the fault of everyone at Ajax, not just that of Ten Hag,” he added.
Onana will now be looking to make a big move, and one team who should be looking to secure his signature is Tottenham Hotspur, who are regular shoppers at Ajax.
Not only do Spurs allegedly want Ajax defender Matthijs de Ligt, but they have also bought Jan Vertonghen, Christian Eriksen and Davinson Sanchez from the Amsterdam giants, with Onana all too familiar with Sanchez having played together last season.
Tottenham look set to lose backup goalkeeper Michel Vorm when his contract expires this summer, and Onana is the perfect shot-stopper to develop behind Hugo Lloris, with a successor needed for the 31-year-old in the coming years – especially given some poor displays of late.
Onana is quick off his line just like Lloris, and has huge potential to become one of the top goalkeepers in the world – something Spurs should be looking to take advantage of his summer as Onana plans his Ajax escape.
