Celtic are keen on Trevor Carson, but appear set to face competition from the Championship promotion-chasers.

Trevor Carson Motherwell's Keeper celebrates with team mate Peter Hartley after the Betfred Cup Semi Final at Hampden Park on October 22, 2017 in Glasgow, Scotland.

According to a report from The Sun on Sunday (15/04; page 61), Celtic are looking set to face competition from Cardiff City to sign Trevor Carson during the summer transfer window.

The Hoops were keen to sign Carson during the January transfer window, with BBC Sport reporting on deadline day that Brendan Rodgers' men had seen a £375,000 bid rejected for the goalkeeper.

Celtic's head coach Brendan Rodgers talks during a press conference in Brussels on September 26, 2017 on the eve of the Champions League group B) football match against RSC Anderlecht.

However, with uncertainty surrounding Scott Bain's future and question marks lingering over the form of Craig Gordon and Dorus De Vries, it appears that Rodgers is still keen on the 30-year-old who was superb when the two teams last met. But signing him may not be an easy task.

The Sun on Sunday (15/04; page 61) reports that Cardiff are keen on signing Carson and are set to offer £100,000, while Celtic would only be looking at bolstering their backup options by targeting the Motherwell ace.

Manager of Cardiff City Neil Warnock looks on prior to the Sky Bet Championship match between Queens Park Rangers and Cardiff City at Loftus Road on March 4, 2017 in London, England.

Potential advantage for Celtic?

Cardiff look set to win promotion to the Premier League this season, with the Bluebirds one point clear of Fulham with a game in hand over the Cottagers - and that may prove very difficult for Carson to turn down if they make an offer that Well accept.

But perhaps Celtic still have a fantastic chance of signing the stopper, as he described the opportunity to move to Parkhead as potentially life-changing in comments reported by BBC Sport in March, so he may be just as keen to make the move if Celtic come calling during the summer.
