Rangers fans are keen to see Cedric Kipre arrive at Ibrox.

Rangers were rocked on Thursday, as centre back David Bates decided to move on at the end of his contract, penning a four-year deal with Bundesliga side Hamburg.

Bates' imminent move to Germany means that Rangers could be depleted in the heart of defence, given that Bruno Alves may yet leave after a disappointing season, Russell Martin is only on loan from Norwich City, and Fabio Cardoso has been struggling for playing time and may pursue a move elsewhere.

Ross McCrorie is one option to build around, but the Gers now head towards the summer needing at least two new centre backs – and fans have on target in mind ahead of the transfer window.

Motherwell defender Cedric Kipre joined the club from Leicester City last summer, having been released by the Foxes and then impressed Well boss Stephen Robinson during a trial spell.

The 21-year-old has become one of the top young defenders in Scotland during his time with Motherwell, emerging as a cult hero at Fir Park with some dominant displays, as fans have taken to his size and strength in the heart of defence.

A new Ivory Coast Under-23 international, Kipre was once on the books of Paris Saint-Germain but is now making waves with Motherwell, and turned in a superb performance as Robinson's men beat Aberdeen 3-0 in their Scottish Cup semi-final clash on Saturday.

Kipre's impressive performance didn't go unnoticed by Gers fans, with a number of them taking to Twitter to suggest that they would like to see Rangers move for Kipre this summer to bolster their defence, branding him a solid centre back that can not only win everything in the air thanks to his size, but also play out from the back too.
