Ex-Leeds United midfielder Lee Bowyer has enjoyed a fine start as Charlton Athletic boss.

Charlton Athletic manager Lee Bowyer looks on during the Sky Bet League One match between Northampton Town and Charlton Athletic at Sixfields on March 30, 2018 in Northampton, England.

Charlton Athletic were plunged into more chaos recently when Karl Robinson resigned and took over at League One rivals Oxford United – but they may have fallen into an ideal replacement.

Lee Bowyer served as Robinson’s assistant, and was handed the managerial reins after Robinson’s exit, serving as a caretaker manager until a replacement could be found.

However, Bowyer has made a dream start as Charlton boss. Last Saturday, Bowyer opened with a 2-0 home win over Plymouth Argyle, before thrashing Northampton Town 4-0 away from home on Friday evening.

On Monday, Charlton were in fine form yet again, as they hammered Rotherham United 3-1 at home to make it three wins from three for Bowyer, scoring nine goals in the process whilst conceding just the once.

Bowyer now has Charlton in the top six and chasing a play-off place, with plaudits deservedly coming his way after such a dream start to his managerial career, especially with a club so close to his heart.

Bowyer started his playing career with Charlton before moving on to Leeds United back in 1996, and Leeds fans are now wondering whether Bowyer can work his way into a similar move in the future.

Bowyer racked up over 250 appearances for Leeds having been something of a mainstay in the club’s Premier League days, and fans have taken to Twitter to suggest that Bowyer is an exciting prospect as a future Leeds manager, backing him to one day make a return to Elland Road.

Others were simply praising Bowyer for his start, with Leeds fans still clearly keen on Bowyer even 15 years on from his Elland Road departure – though any chance of him becoming Leeds manager seems a far-off idea right now.
