Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly keen on signing the Crystal Palace man.

Mauricio Pochettino manager

Tottenham fans will be praying that Mauricio Pochettino is sufficiently backed in the transfer market this summer, in the hope that their club can make a sustained push for the Premier League title next season.

According to the Daily Mail, they might just get their wish, with the newspaper claiming that they are lining up a £40 million swoop for Crystal Palace winger Wilfried Zaha.

They do go on to claim that the Eagles will demand more money for the 25-year-old, however.

There is a real argument to be made that the Ivory Coast international isn’t worth anywhere near that amount, though, and Spurs should consider pursuing other targets.

Zaha has chalked up just 39 goals and 54 assists in 297 career appearances thus far, and despite the fact that he possesses pace in abundance, his productivity and final ball leaves a lot to be desired.

Tottenham have plenty of players in wide areas with pace, but they need someone with more guile and that little bit of extra nouse in the final third – two things that the Palace man would not offer them.

Whilst the transfer market is currently in a ludicrously inflated state, more than £40 million on Zaha would still be a huge risk, and there are, of course, major doubts as to whether he can produce the goods when playing for a team challenging for the Premier League title – just look at his failed spell with Manchester United.

Tottenham need to spend in the summer, of that there is no doubt, but they would be better off avoiding a move for the 25-year-old winger.
