Lionel Messi may still be regarded as the world’s best footballer by many, but the Barcelona forward’s value is now less than Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane, according to CIES Football Observatory.
According to a study done by the CIES Football Observatory using data based on performance, England international striker Kane is now worth €198.2 million (£174.78m).
Argentina international forward Messi, who has guided Barcelona to the quarter-finals of the Champions League this season, is valued at €196.8m (£173.54m).
There is not too much of a difference between the two players, but it is remarkable that Kane, 24, is worth more than Messi, one of the greatest footballers of all time.
Two of Kane’s Tottenham teammates, though, have seen their values drop, according to the CIES Football Observatory study.
Tottenham paid Swansea City £12m in the summer of 2017 in order to secure the services of Llorente, according to Sky Sports.
Lamela moved to Spurs from AS Roma in the summer of 2013 for a transfer fee reported by BBC Sport to be worth £25.7m.
