Aleksandar Mitrovic joined Championship side Fulham on loan from Newcastle.

German outlet Sport Bild have reported that Bundesliga side Hamburg had agreed a £660,000 loan fee with Newcastle United for Aleksandar Mitrovic on deadline day – only for a move to fall through at the last minute.
The 23-year-old moved to Championship side Fulham after a temporary transfer to former club Anderlecht fell through on deadline day, with the Serbian striker reportedly completing his Fulham medical in Belgium.

But it has now transpired that Mitrovic was also in line to join Hamburg on the final day of the January transfer window, only for the German club’s board to block a move at the last minute.
A move had been agreed, if the report is to be believed, only for Hamburg’s board to forget about the proposal made by manager Bernd Hollerbach – who has now been sacked by the club.

The form of Mitrovic will surely be a source of frustration for Hamburg’s former boss, as the 33-time Serbia international has scored seven goals in eight games for Slavisa Jokanovic’s west London outfit.
It remains to be seen what Mitrovic’s long-term future is at St. James’ Park, with a contract on Tyneside until the summer of 2020. But it is clear that Rafa Benitez is likely to look at other alternatives.
