According to Bild, Liverpool have joined Tottenham Hotspur in the race to sign Stuttgart defender Benjamin Pavard at the end of the season.

Pavard, 21, came up through the ranks with Lille having joined the club way back in 2005, and he became a first-team regular in the 2015-16 campaign before signing for Stuttgart.

The versatile defender, who can play at centre back or right back, played a major part in Stuttgart's promotion to the Bundesliga last season, and has been vital again this term with 26 league appearances to his name.

It's now believed that Liverpool are interested in signing Pavard this summer, though Stuttgart are suggesting that they won't even consider offers below €30million (£26.5million).

The report also notes that Tottenham Hotspur are keen on Pavard having scouted him recently, whilst Stuttgart's Bundesliga rivals Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig are also interested.

Spurs may well be in the market for another centre back due to concerns over Toby Alderweireld's future, and Pavard fits the bill for Mauricio Pochettino's men as a talented young player without the wage demands of a big-name player.

However, Liverpool – who broke their club transfer record in January to sign defender Virgil van Dijk – may now enter the race themselves, offering Jurgen Klopp a versatile option at the back.

A French international who could yet feature at this summer's World Cup, Pavard is attracting more and more interest – and we could see Liverpool take on Tottenham for his signature this summer.
