Wolverhampton Wanderers chairman Jeff Shi has told The Express & Star that the way Aston Villa celebrated at the weekend shows how much the rivals respect them.

Villa hammered Wolves 4-1 at Villa Park in the Championship last Saturday evening.

It was one of the Wanderers’ worst performances of the season, and the result has dented their hopes of winning the Championship title.

The result has enhanced Villa’s chances of finishing in the top two, and the players of the home team celebrated the victory in style.

Wolves chairman Shi told The Express & Star: "Everyone wants to shoot at us because we're top of the league. I like this feeling more than before.

"You can see when Aston Villa won they were so happy. Okay – fair play to them – but it shows what we have done to win the praise of our opponents.”

Best team in the Championship

Although Wolves’ performances and results in recent weeks have not been great, there is no doubt that they have been the best team in the Championship this season.

Given the quality of players that the Wanderers have in their squad, it is hard to see Nuno's side collapse in the final weeks of the season.

Wolves should manage to finish in the top two of the Championship this season and clinch promotion to the Premier League for the 2018-19 campaign.
