Leeds United loanee Liam Kitching continues to impress away from Elland Road at National League North side Harrogate Town.

Leeds fans celebrate their team's victory during the Sky Bet Championship match between Leeds United and Derby County at Elland Road on November 29, 2014 in Leeds, England.

With Leeds United’s first-team struggling and tumbling down the Championship table, news that a number of their young players are doing pretty well away from Elland Road will offer only a minor consolation.

Although Liam Kitching’s form at Harrogate Town definitely deserves a mention. The 18-year-old defender has been terrific since joining the National League side on loan in the middle of the January transfer window, and even has three goals in three games from the back.

He hit the net again with a looping header as Harrogate cruised to a 6-0 win against FC United of Manchester to keep their place at the top of the league. A spot in the National League Team of the Week was well deserved.

And Kitching, who is yet to make his first-team debut for Leeds, took to Twitter to express his joy at another weekend well spent.

With so much young talent emerging through Leeds’ prosperous academy over the last couple of years - Sam Byram, Lewis Cook and Ronaldo Vieira to name a few - there is no reason to believe that Kitching will not follow in their footsteps.

There is nothing better than a local lad made good to get the fans pulling in the same direction and the Leeds supporters are keen to see Kitching progress further.

Who knows, a place in the first-team could be closer than you would think, with Leeds’ defence struggling on an almost weekly basis. After all, manager Paul Heckingbottom has already given Bailey Peacock-Farrell a chance.
