If seems that Celtic were more than open to Jozo Simunovic departing the club during the January transfer window.
Amid interest from Premier League duo Burnley and Crystal Palace, the Mail stated that the Scottish Premiership champions had put a very cost-effective £7 million price-tag on the centre-back’s head.
This, in itself, was perhaps a reflection of Simunovic’s dip in form over the last few months. He was superb in Brendan Rodgers’ first season at Parkhead but has been a shadow of his former self over the last few months.
And his display in the Old Firm derby clash with Rangers on Sunday did nothing to prevent the snowballing opinion that the former Dinamo Zagreb defender has become something of a liability.
Yes, Celtic won the game 3-2, thanks to a curling winner from Odsonne Edouard, but that was largely in spite of Simunovic. He may argue that his second half straight red was harsh, but he was asking for trouble when throwing a forearm in the direction of Alfredo Morelos’s face.
In reality, the 23-year-old can have very few complaints.
The same, however, cannot be said of Celtic supporters who are quickly losing patience in a defender who, alongside Dedryck Boyata, has hardly given the Hoops much of reliable platform in the last few months.

There can’t be any complaints about Simunovic’s sending off. We’ve all seen players get away with that kind of thing, but if you swing an elbow like that you’re asking for a red card.— Daniel O'Connell (@DanielOConnel18) March 11, 2018
Boyata and Simunovic’s time is up! We need two new CB for next season HH— Scotty (@BhoyBarclay) March 11, 2018
Bain should keep the number 1 jersey, regardless of when Gordon comes back. Hendry should be given a run in the team - he can replace either Boyata or Simunovic, both are a liability. #Celtic— Just Johnny (@Johnny_Ireland) March 11, 2018
If any club is willing to pay £7 million for Simunovic this summer, amid reports Lazio want him as a replacement for Stefan de Vrij, Celtic will be laughing all the way to the bank.
