Leeds fans have been left furious on Twitter after Paul Heckingbottom's response - which has been reported by Leeds Live - when asked about Pablo Hernandez's contract situation at Elland Road.
Hernandez is out of contract with the Whites at the end of the season. And while he is currently the oldest outfield player available to Heckingbottom, he has also been one of the most impressive this season.
The Spaniard has scored four goals and provided six assists in the Championship this term, and has often proven to be the player to look to make things happen when the Yorkshire side have not been at their best throughout the campaign.
Nevertheless, he is now heading for the final months of his deal with Leeds. And ahead of their clash with Reading this weekend, Heckingbottom was unable to provide a concrete answer regarding the playmaker when asked about his future.
"He’s been a real positive light. With his contract situation, it’s something we want to make sure we get right and we want to give Pablo every opportunity to perform. The priority is keeping him fit, then we’ll see what happens," he said, as reported by Leeds Live.
Understandably, Heckingbottom's comments have angered a number of supporters as they feel that it is a clear suggestion from the Leeds head coach that he is on his way out of the club this summer.
The fans appear to believe that if Hernandez was going to be a Whites player next season, he would have already signed a deal or the rhetoric coming from the club would have been a lot more positive regarding his situation.
Here is what the Leeds fans made of Heckingbottom's comments on Hernandez...
The priority is bloody signing him. Jesus wept, this club at times.— SouthStand_ER (@SouthStand_ER) March 8, 2018
If the Club fail to tie Hernandez down you can kiss The Project goodbye— Jettatura (@J3tt4tur4) March 8, 2018
we know where these 'let's see what happens' things go ... away.— Daithí, probably (@Daithionaroll) March 8, 2018
JUST GIVE HIM A CONTRACT IT’S NOT DIFFICULT— Beth (@BGF_lufc) March 8, 2018

Best player by far..... ah we'll let his contract run down.— J.WALLA (@johnboywallace) March 8, 2018
Everyone and their dog got 4 year deals, wage bill increased to ridiculous levels for the standards of performance and we can't just take a risk on giving Pablo an extra year? Beyond belief at times #lufc— Liam Wharin (@LeedsUtdLAW) March 8, 2018
This is not rocket science, nor has Pablo anything to prove. In fact the club owe him some pay back. At times Pablo has been worth the entrance fee alone. Now extent his contract.— Stephen Lewis (@vegansmithsfan) March 8, 2018
With a bit of luck, he’ll be there longer than Heckingbottom !— PhilB (@RATROD429) March 8, 2018
