Aston Villa’s chances of signing Sam Johnstone now surely rely on them being promoted to the Premier League.
Villa are already known to be looking to bring Johnstone in permanently, but they surely won’t be able to afford that transfer unless they are in the Premier League.
The claret and blues are already battling against Financial Fair Play, and paying £6.5 million for a goalkeeper, would be an unwise move if they are a Championship club.
The claret and blues would have no problems affording the fee if they were in the Premier League, though.
And Steve Bruce may now be relying on his side to get promoted, if he is to be able to bring in Johnstone in a permanent deal in the summer.
Villa are currently in third place in the Championship table, four points away from the automatic promotion spots.
