Mauricio Pochettino has admitted to the London Evening Standard that Davinson Sanchez has surprised everyone at Tottenham Hotspur.

Sanchez was brought to Spurs from Ajax last summer, and he has enjoyed an excellent first season in the Premier League.

The powerful centre-back has played a key role for Spurs this season, with Pochettino throwing the new signing in at the deep end.

The Argentine boss has generally kept his new signings in reserve, before breaking them in gently.

And he has suggested that Serge Aurier needs time to adapt to playing in England, before Spurs fans will see the best of the inconsistent right-back.

However, Sanchez’s talents have been clear to see all campaign, and Pochettino admits everyone is shocked by how easy he has found the transition to playing for Tottenham.

“It is normal in the Premier League, it is not an easy position for players when they arrive, like Lucas [Moura] and Juan Foyth, I think who surprised everyone is Davinson Sanchez, at 21 his performances have been unbelievable,” Pochettino said.

Pochettino’s comments show just how big a talent Spurs have in their hands in Sanchez.

Sanchez may actually not have got the praise he deserves this campaign, as the strength of his performances have not always been picked up on.

The centre-back is still only 21, but has all the tools to develop into a potential superstar.

And if he continues to develop at his current rate, he could be an integral part of Tottenham’s backline for years to come.
