When Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang signed for Arsenal in the transfer window he was supposed to be the signing to herald the dawn of a new era at the Gunners.
On Sunday he started up front in the Carabao Cup final and the result was more depressing than ever for Gooners.
Aubameyang was anonymous as Arsenal lost 3-0 to Manchester City, missing an early chance before his most notable contribution was getting outpaced and outfought by Vincent Kompany.
The optimism among Arsenal fans is gone already, especially when comparing to earlier this month when Piers Morgan taunted Tottenham fans that Aubameyang was going to take them apart.
Tottenham shut Aubameyang out and their star striker Harry Kane stole the show with the winning goal.
Aubameyang’s defeat to City yesterday was his second loss at Wembley this month, and his third this season, having also lost against Spurs while playing for Borussia Dortmund.
There is more to come from the Gabon striker at Arsenal, but he is not the quick fix solution to their problems.
