The Tottenham Hotspur centre-back is widely considered to be one of the best in the world.

Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino addressed the media yesterday during his pre-match press conference, and raved about the quality of Jan Vertonghen, labelling the defender as a ‘complete centre-back’, as quoted by Football.London.
The Belgium international joined Tottenham from Ajax in the summer of 2012, for a fee believed to be worth in the region of £12 million, and he has gone on to become one of the finest central defenders in world football.
That £12 million is now looking like an absolute snip, and with the 30-year-old at the heart of Spurs’ defence, they always look like a side who are extremely hard to break down, whoever he is playing alongside.

Vertonghen is a real leader for Tottenham on the pitch, and the calmness that he exudes when playing sets the tone for his teammates.
Pochettino raved about the 30-year-old, when speaking to reporters yesterday, praising his ‘unbelievable’ quality, physical condition and technique, as quoted by Football.London:

“He has unbelievably quality, physical condition, technique. He has improved in an aspect that was so important for him, the mental aspect. Now I think he is a complete centre back. He deserves to be praised. We have worked a lot together to reach the level that he is at today.”
Next up for Spurs is a trip to Selhurst Park to take on Crystal Palace on Sunday, and Vertonghen will have to be at his best, if his side are to return to north London with maximum points.
