Everton manager Sam Allardyce has told the club's official website that he is really pleased to see midfielder Idrissa Gueye sign a new contract.
It's fair to say that the former Lille man has been a bargain for Everton, having starred in Ronald Koeman's midfield last season and played a key role again this term.
The relentless midfielder has impressed with his never-ending energy and defensive abilities, even sparking reports from The Mirror in April 2017 that Arsenal and Manchester United were both keen to land him.
No summer move materialised, and Everton have now taken steps to ensuring that they keep Gueye out of the clutches of their Premier League rivals.
Everton today confirmed that Gueye has put pen-to-paper on a new contract with the club until the summer of 2022, with the player delighted to have signed a new deal.
Manager Sam Allardyce offered his thoughts on the deal too, telling the club's official website that he is really pleased to see Gueye sign a new contract given that he has been 'terrific' in recent months.
Allardyce added that he loves Gueye's attitude, praising him for always training with a smile on his face, and believes he still has his best football ahead of him at Goodison Park.
“I’m really pleased that Idrissa has signed a new deal at the Club. He’s been terrific since I’ve been here and it’s fantastic for the Club,” said Allardyce. “I love his attitude, the way he enjoys his football, the dedication and focus with which he trains every day and always with a smile on his face.”
“It’s great that he’s committed long-term to Everton and he will enjoy some of his best football here in the years ahead,” he added.
