Heckingbottom gave an update on Leeds quartet Conor Shaughnessy, Ouasim Buoy, Kemar Roofe and Tyler Roberts.

Leeds United manager Paul Heckingbottom has reported during Friday’s press conference, via Leeds’ Facebook Live channel, that Tyler Roberts has to go for another scan on his injured ankle.

Roberts, 19, suffered an ankle injury during the week and is yet to make his Leeds debut, with his immediate future now set to be on the Elland Road sidelines rather than out on the pitch.

He is set to join Luke Ayling in the treatment room, while another long-term absentee – Conor Shaughnessy – will have to undergo surgery on a similar problem to Ayling.

But Heckingbottom did deliver some good news by stating forgotten man Ouasim Buoy and attacker Kemar Roofe have returned to first-team training.

He claimed Buoy had cracked a couple of ribs but is back in training, while Roofe lost a tooth during the 2-1 loss to Sheffield United and has undergone the “protocol” required to train ahead of Sunday’s clash against Bristol City.

“He’s [Roberts] got to go for another scan,” Heckingbottom said. “He felt something in his shin, just about his ankle. The problem is the first assessment is that he has a crack on the bone.

“He’s going to be out for a considerable amount of time. We’ll have to see what the consultant said. Bouy cracked a couple of ribs but has been back in today. Roofey went through the protocol but is back in today.”

On Shaughnessy, Heckingbottom said he is a “long-termer” and may require an operation.

Leeds play host to Lee Johnson’s side as Heckingbottom looks to get his first win as manager following last Saturday’s 2-1 loss to Sheffield United. The Whites are now without a win in eight games.

The Yorkshire giants will draw confidence from the fact that they beat Bristol City 3-0 at Ashton Gate in one of the performances of the season, thanks to a brace from Samu Saiz and a Pierre-Michel Lasogga strike.
