Hammers midfield ace Cheikhou Kouyaté has been far from his best this season, but he has shown recent signs of improvement, and he told the club's official website how he has his teammates to thank for that.

The 28-year-old has found himself to be the target of heavy criticism from the club's fanbase this season, but in fairness to him, the whole team have under-performed, and he should not be made out as a scapegoat.

Kouyate joined West Ham from Anderlecht in the summer of 2014, for a fee believed to be worth in the region of £7 million, and he initially impressed for the Hammers, with some fans comparing his loose and languid style to that of Arsenal legend Patrick Vieira.

He has obviously failed to live up to his early promise, however.

The Senegal international spoke exclusively to the club's official website, and shared how his teammates have been trying to boost his confidence by telling him that he is the 'best':

"They spoke to me a lot and told me ‘take your confidence, you are the best’. It’s the same message from Adrian and from Jose Fonte. I know that today I am getting back to my best and I have to thank my guys."

Next up for Kouyate and co is a trip to Anfield to take on Liverpool in the Premier League on February 24th, and the Senegalese will have to be at his very best, if his side are to have any chance whatsoever of returning to London with anything to show for their efforts.
