Leeds United fans will have to wait longer than expected to see new signing Tyler Roberts in action. The former West Bromwich Albion striker arrived at Elland Road on deadline day, but has not yet been fit enough to make his Whites bow.
A debut seemed to be on the cards in the near future, only for Leeds to announce on Wednesday that Roberts will be out for an 'extended period' of time after cracking his shin.
The 19-year-old will now see a specialist to determine how long he will be out of action for, although new Leeds manager Paul Heckingbottom warned: "the club has a duty of care to ensure we don’t rush these situations because we expect Tyler to be an important player for us for years to come".
Reacting to the news on Twitter, several Leeds fans are seemingly happy to be patient with their £2.5 million January recruit, who, interestingly, may have landed West Brom a higher fee in the summer, had a tribunal hearing been required - or worse still, opted for a move elsewhere.
cant wait to see Roberts play next season— James Clapham (@james_clapham) 14 February 2018
It's alright, plenty of time. He's one for the future anyway— Gareth George (@gaffer_g) 14 February 2018
Exactly. Load of fuss about nothing. Keep Ekuban fit, play two up top, things will get better.— Rob LUFC Blogger (@RobofLeeds) 14 February 2018
As annoyed as I am that Roberts is injured, don’t understand people who are saying we shouldn’t have signed him. He has heaps of potential so even though he may not feature this year, we have a quality player for the future, who we may have otherwise missed out on #lufc— Super Leeds United (@superlufc1919) 14 February 2018
For others, however, that is simply not the case - and the conspiracy theorists are out in force.
FFS havnt even seen him kick a ball in 2018...— Abhinav Shukla (@JustShukla) 14 February 2018
And sidelined for a long time ....
There goes the hopes of playing with 2 strikers ...
And no Roofe is not a striker in this division! pic.twitter.com/pKr1HQME1R
Great. Can’t wait to see Roofe and Alioski labouring around the pitch throwing themselves to the ground at every opportunity— . (@robw123q) 14 February 2018
call me a cynical old git but considering he hasnt been seen since we signed him, im more inclined to believe you signed him injured but havent dared say that.— Steve (@Yorkie6013) 14 February 2018
Another platinum hit from Victor Orta— Robert Hirst (@theroberthirst) 14 February 2018
Can roofe please get injured or suspended for once. Please god just for a couple months is all i ask— Nick Kajkowski (@Nick0588) 14 February 2018
The worse thing about this is that means Roofe will probably start again!— Aaron Taylor (@AzzaLufc) 14 February 2018
Defo signed injured can only happen at Leeds ,bought to push us for playoffs— peter taffinder (@taffinder1970) 14 February 2018
Is this a joke? @andrearadri why are you buying players that aren’t ready to go ?— James Freeman (@jamesmfreems) 14 February 2018
Like throwing money out of the window... pic.twitter.com/Ucv5UMtlNp— Gert-Jan™️⭐️⭐️ (@gert_jan7) 14 February 2018
Great bit of recruiting there Victor— Ian (@leedsio) 14 February 2018

Come on Sturridge 2, and we let Madine go to Cardiff no ambition— Tim Brennan (@Themanfromcork) 14 February 2018
Apart from getting rid of Mr Orta we also need to replace our medical officer because he keeps passing unfit new signings— David Kerr (@davidkerr2821) 14 February 2018
Funny how a lot of people in the know knew he was out for rest of season over the weekend— Mark Kellett (@mjkellettdecor1) 14 February 2018
Can I ask what the hell are we doing signing players with injuries (and don't say this only happened this week). We needed a striker to come straight into the setup, not straight to the physio table ffs. What are you playing at?— Daz ✊ (@hobsterlobster) 14 February 2018
Since when was a shin and an ankle the same thing?— Cheadle guy (@CheadleWhite) 14 February 2018
Flop— Enoch (@Showunmi21) 14 February 2018
That's Tyler Roberts out for the season then.— Daryl (@Dazelar29) 14 February 2018
Not a chance I'm believing that that was an injury picked up in training either. He had that when he first arrived thus the reason he hasn't pulled on a white shirt yet.
This season has been a joke #lufc
Not to start any conspiracies or anything but this was posted on Saturday morning.— Daryl (@Dazelar29) 14 February 2018
It's eerily accurate to call the exact diagnosis before anything was announced about a further injury. #lufc pic.twitter.com/indyYRVAt5
Did Leeds rush through the deal with West Brom - and, if so, were they right to do so?
