Not only did Spurs recover from two goals down to draw at a side who had conceded just once in their last 16 games, they dominated the majority of the encounter in Turin and, by the end of the game, may be a little disappointed that they didn’t come away with more than two away strikes.
But the performance of Serge Aurier at right-back still gave Spurs fans something to complain about on what was an otherwise excellent night of football in further established themselves truly as a European force.
The Ivorian international has endured a mixed time at Tottenham since his summer move from PSG and his display in midweek encapsulated everything that is bad about the £23 million man.
His brainless challenge on Douglas Costa on the stroke of half time, gifting Juventus their second penalty of the opening 45, was one of the most ridiculous tackles you’ll see anywhere at the top level this season.
It seems that Aurier, despite playing Champions League football for a number of years, still has not learned that it’s not a good idea to fly into a desperate lunge inside your own box. Fortunately, Gonzalo Higuain clattered his spot kick against the bar.
And fortunately for Spurs fans, a booking rules Aurier out of the second leg.
