Barcelona’s January signing got everyone talking on Sunday and, no, it was not Philippe Coutinho.
Barring a few shaky moments, not to mention a misplaced no-look pass which almost gave Getafe a shock lead, Mina turned heads for all the right reasons. His composed and eye-catching display was a rare positive in a goalless draw which cut Barca’s La Liga advantage over Atletico Madrid to seven points.
It’s clear already why Barcelona have spent so long chasing the 22-year-old. And it’s also easy to see why West Bromwich Albion made the most ambitious of attempts to hi-jack Mina’s move to Catalonia.
Sport (19th June, 2017) reported that West Brom had made a stunning £15 million bid to bring one of the world’s most exciting young centre-backs to The Hawthorns, despite the fact that Barcelona had an exclusive option to sign Mina. This would have made him the club’s joint record-signing and that alone shows just how highly West Brom rated this dancing, dynamic defender.
In truth, it was never likely that Mina was going to postpone his Barcelona dream for a spell in the Midlands, but West Brom fans will no doubt end up wishing he had.
Here what Barca fans said about Mina's debut:
What a guy Yerry Mina is. Already comfortable with the ball. Taking risks and getting reward. Seems like a personality off and on the pitch and creates a huge physical presence in the defence.— BarcaTimes (@BarcaTimes) February 11, 2018
And nowadays they tell you Van Dijk is worth 75£ million pic.twitter.com/p2rtSn1RPy
Which Centre Back does a no look pass in his debut? Yerry Mina is the name. pic.twitter.com/DWL3MLIPc6— FC Barcelona (@BarcaUniversal) February 11, 2018
Think Yerry Mina was one of few positives here. He seems faster than most defenders his size & comfy enough on the ball. Will need to learn to keep his arms down though, gave away a few dumb FKs for swinging them around opponent's shoulders.— Jen Evelyn (@JenFCB) February 11, 2018

Yerry Mina had a very good game. Strong in the air, Dangerous from set pieces and his composure, passing, defense, positioning & awareness is really good.
Best is yet to come. pic.twitter.com/WvT64nk12J
Yerry Mina already showing that great things will come. I like that he attempts some crazy passes as he should.. Will like to see him against a more attacking side— WILSON CULE (@Ojeey_wilson) February 11, 2018
Yerry Mina is seriously impressive for a player I'd never heard of. Love how he plays with his eyes up the field and the confidence in his distribution, in addition to the pure athleticism. #FCBlive @TheBarcelonaPod— Ben Shechtman (@TheLegalBS) February 11, 2018
