New Leeds United signing Tyler Roberts will be out of action for an 'extended period' of time.

The club announced the news this morning, days before he was hoping to make his debut.

Roberts picked up the injury in training, having just shaken off a previous knock.

Roberts signed for Leeds on deadline day from West Bromwich Albion, having finished a loan spell at Walsall.

New manager Paul Heckingbottom told the club's official website: "This is disappointing news for all concerned, especially for Tyler.

"However, with the help of the experienced medical team at Thorp Arch, he will come back stronger than ever.

"We would love to have Tyler involved as soon as possible but, particularly with our younger players, the club has a duty of care to ensure we don’t rush these situations because we expect Tyler to be an important player for us for years to come."

Roberts will see a specialist this week to assess the seriousness of the injury.

Injury prone striker Caleb Ekuban has just returned from injury himself, coming off the bench at the weekend, and Leeds will now be relying on him to stay fit.
