Celtic could have signed Charly Musonda from Chelsea in 2014.

Charly Musonda of Celtic is seen during the Scottish Premier League match between Celtic and Heart of Midlothian at Celtic Park on January 30, 2018 in Glasgow, Scotland.

Peter Houston was recently quoted as saying by The Scottish Sun that he suggested Charly Musonda to Celtic a few years ago.

The former Albion Rovers and Falkirk striker was working as a scout for Celtic at the time, and he spotted Musonda during a game between the Belgium Under-19 and the Greece Under-19 sides in May 2014.

The 21-year-old, who can operate as an attacking midfielder or as a winger, scored twice in the match, and Houston recently revealed that he wrote a good report on the Chelsea youngster.

The Scottish Sun quoted Houston as saying about Musonda: “When Celtic were going to sign him, that’s one of the things I thankfully noticed – I wrote a good report and handed it into Celtic a few years ago. He was a talented boy and I really think he’s a boy who will take Celtic by storm.”

It seems that Celtic knew about Musonda back in 2014, so why did it take them so long as only this January to sign the youngster on loan from Chelsea?

The Belgium Under-21 international would have been a good addition to the Bhoys in 2014 and maybe the Glasgow giants could have signed him permanently by now, and it was a mistake not to recruit him when Houston recommended him.

However, it seems that the Hoops have rectified their mistake, with manager Brendan Rodgers signing the Belgian on loan in the January transfer window.

Musonda is a very talented and promising versatile footballer who is going to be an important player for Celtic in Scotland and in Europe during the next 18 months.
